Product Design Internship
At Doubao, I enhanced AI voice, video, and chat tools to boost usability and efficiency, resulting in two granted patents.
Jun -Aug 2025; Shanghai, China
Overview
In 2025, I joined Doubao(Cici), one of China’s leading AI products(160 million cumulative users), as a Product/UX Designer. During my time there, I designed 4–5 interactive prototypes for AI voice input, exploring motion and interaction patterns to make speech-to-text more natural and usable. This work was later recognized with two granted patents, which was a rewarding milestone in my design career.
I also collaborated with PMs and engineers to implement 10+ mobile chat features—including message sending, AI follow-ups, and favorites—while gaining valuable experience in translating design requirements into development-ready solutions and supporting the delivery of features to launch. In addition, I helped refine AI video creation and Quick Copy tools, using prototyping and user research to lower the learning curve for beginners while supporting advanced users.
I took the problem from a broad idea to high-fidelity versions and prototyped the user interactions. I worked closely with several designers, researchers, and engineers, but mainly with my amazing mentor Xiaoshuang, a senior product designer, who pushed me to grow as a designer and learn more about how to tackle complex problems and design complete end-to-end flows.
Unfortunately, due to NDA I am unable to share any specific details about the project until the product launches publicly. If you have questions about my experience, feel free to shoot a message!

💡 MY LEARNING AND TAKEAWAYS
Stay Curious, Keep Exploring
Embrace uncertainty. Stay curious, ask questions, experiment, and keep pushing creative ideas without waiting for permission.
Ask Right Questions
Working in teams and asking the right questions taught me to think more deeply, spot opportunities I might have missed, and make better design decisions.
Design with Purpose
Keep your designs simple and focused. Prioritize the scenarios users engage with most and ensure every element serves a meaningful purpose.
Avoid overloading users with information or adding features that don’t create real value.
Open to Perspectives
Seek feedback frequently and early in your design process. Don’t hesitate to share work-in-progress with your team. Stay humble and make an effort to understand others’ perspectives.
